HULK VS. THE INCREDIBLE HULK
How often does a character receive 2nd chance to return to the big screen within 5 years after a debuting flop? I’m comparing the 2003 version to the re-imagined Hulk movie coming out in 2008.
‘Hulk’ from the 2003 movie looked like a bloated green bratwurst with an odd amount of chromosomes. A superhero movie without a supervillain? Duh! The Hulk was ‘super-strong’, but where was the hero?
It lacked action, too emotional and the story sagged. Danny Elfman’s score could only go so far Ang Lee for director? Since when did the Hulk become a metaphor for Chinese martial arts saga? What was the deal with those ‘comic book panels’ on the screen – a nod to Fanboys? Did they even apply make-up to Eric Bana? And if you don’t even care about the main character within the first 10 minutes of the movie then the script is a total waste! They went overboard with the ‘misunderstood man-child’ concept.
Bottom line, they mistook the Hulk as a 'cycle of family violence', when in truth he’s just a social misfit on the run from the law.
When Letterier, the 2008 director says they were influenced by the TV series, I think he’s referring to the directing, concept & writing. After all, Kenneth Johnson, Nicholas Korea etc, had over 4 years to perfect the Incredible Hulk TV adaptation. Letterier is putting his pride aside to use the same approach and wisely so. The only reason why they went with the fugitive approach on TV and not with comic villains was BUDGET. Use that big movie money to bring those comic book villains such as the Abomination, Leader, Madman, etc to life That’ll help in it’s success..
FYI- I avoided trailers from 2003 Hulk as not to spoil the movie for me. Rest assured, I won’t be making that mistake with 2008 The Incredible Hulk. Oh yeah, I can do without Stan Lee’s gooey’s face upon the screen with ad libbing jibberish to boot.

I do agree with some of of what you said. I like the revamp of Hulk/Banner's origin stating that he had a screwed up life growing up rather than the reason Hulk is angry all the time is because the government, the military rather, won't leave him alone. Hulk was severely over done, and I hope this one will bring it justice.
