Shortly after the coming of Apocalypse, Jamie Madrox was captured by Apocalypse's forces and genetically altered by Sinister and Beast to exceed the natural limits of his duplicating abilities. The Madrox duplicates were used as part of Apocalypse's Madri, a church of madmen preaching hatred and violence. However the strain proved too much for Madrox and he lost his mind in the process. After years of being in a near-catatonic state, Madrox was discovered by Quicksilver and Banshee, who were rescuing Bishop from the Madri. Madrox begged Quicksilver to kill him but in the end, Madrox was forced to end his own, thereby stopping the Madri once and for all.
