Abilities
Velsing is an above-average athlete and possesses a fair knowledge of hand-to-hand combat. He is also a brilliant, dedicated engineer and scientist.

Weapons
Dreadknight's major offensive weapon is his power-lance, with has been modified with a variety of devices. Among these are electromagnetic alpha-beams (capable of smashing through a foot-thick cinderblock wall). Finger-studs on the lance's hilt control the power of the beams. The lance also contains two spools of conductive steel cable, fifty feet each in length. A linear accelerator (magnetic cannon) fires the cables through the central shaft of the lance, and the weighted ends wrap around the target like a bolo. By pressing a stud on the lance's hilt, an electrical charge with a maximum strength of 65,000 volts (enough to kill a small elephant) is discharged through the cable. The lance's third and final offensive capability are its "penetro-shell" missile launchers, which fires four three-inch projectiles from the hilt of the lance, each capable of exploding with a force of five pounds of TNT.

As a secondary weapon, Dreadknight carries a carbon dioxide pistol that fires a highly-concentrated nerve gas, capable of rendering an average human being unconscious within two seconds. A sufficient dosage could kill a person (through paralysis of the respiratory system). The pistol's magazine contains four gas capsules, and when the trigger is squeezed, a capsule is positioned so that it can be expelled by a high-pressure jet of carbon dioxide gas. The pistol has a maximum range of five feet.

Paraphernalia
Dreadknight wears a full-body suit of electrically-insulated steel-alloy chain mail that protects him from gunfire (up to a .45 caliber bullet). His mask is "bio-fused" (micro-surgically attached) to his face and cannot be removed. Dreadknight rides a black, bat-winged steed he calls Hellhorse. The horse has great strength and is able to fly at a top speed of fifty miles per hour, but after an hour of flying it must rest.

First Appearance
Iron Man #101 (1977)

Bram Velsing was a young, brilliant scientist dedicated to serving his homeland Latveria. Unsatisfied in simply executing the technological schemes of his evil monarch Doctor Doom, Doom discovered his scientist's rebellious ambitions. As punishment, Doom had a mask permanently fused to Velsing's face so that, like Doom's, his features were hidden forever.

Anguished and humiliated, Velsing fled from Latveria and eventually came under the care of the Children, the genetic creations of Dr. Victor von Frankenstein, who in turn were tended by Frankenstein's great-granddaughter Victoria. While being nursed back to health in Castle Frankenstein, Velsing encountered the former Black Knight's winged horse, which Victoria had tried to restore to normal, but only succeeded in mutating it further. Using the horse and his scientific intellect, he decided to use his terrifying visage to seek vengeance on Doctor Doom with a new identity Dreadknight.

Secretly plotting to steal Victor Frankenstein's secret notebooks, Dreadknight's plan was thwarted by Victoria with the help of Frankenstein's Monster and Iron Man (who happened to drop in en route to America). Once again in the care of the Children, Dreadknight's current whereabouts are unknown, but is most likely still plotting revenge on Doom.
