Iron Man blasted into Hollywood's records books this weekend, making a staggering $100.75 million!
The opening was the second-best non-sequel opening ever, surpassed only by Spider-Man's 2002 debut!
Globally, the film raked in a Tony Stark-sized $201 million in box office receipts!
"Iron Man's performance this weekend is a great blast off for our studio," said David Maisel, Chairman of Marvel Studios. "It is incredibly satisfying to see the work of the entire Marvel team culminate in such a great launch for our studio. We are looking forward to bringing comic and film fans alike more incredible heroes and villains to the big screen."
So, with that said, hot on the repulsor-propelled heels of Shellhead's blockbuster first weekend, Marvel Studios has announced a sequel to the film launching April 30, 2010!
"The opening weekend's success of Iron Man more then validates the hard work of those working both in front of and behind the camera to bring this incredible film to life," said Kevin Feige, President of Production of Marvel Studios. "We are already thinking of what comes next for the armored avenger as well as other characters from the Marvel Universe."
In addition to the Iron Man sequel, fans can expect Thor to wield his mighty hammer later that summer, and 2011 will see both Captain America and Avengers movies!

deserves every ounce of its success. I haven't talked to a single person, long-term fan or not, that didn't have anything but good things to say about the film.
Any chance we could see Hulk...
