2007-03-29 14:30:11

Not to take the "spotlight" (har har) away from my pal Garth, but the latest issue of Marvel Spotlight which focuses on the upcoming series by STEPHEN KING, The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born, is chock full of interesting stuff too! We've got inerviews with King's collaborator, Robin Furth, artist Jae Lee, colourist Richard Isanove and Dark Tower scripter Peter David! Also included is an open letter from KING himself and a preview of the first issue! What else can you ask for? Pick up Marvel Spotlight: The Dark Tower, on sale January 31st!

Enjoy!

TOTALLY Off Topic - Digests
Jen,

Since you posted a new one of these and I know you check the comments, I'm going to put in a request.

Pretty, pretty, pretty please come out with more digests. It's pretty much down to MC2 and Ruanways right now (with some hope that Loners will get one too). It's my absolute favorite way to read Marvel comics right now. I'd really love it if New X-Men, or She-Hulk, or Agents of Atlas or just about anything got Digest support. Even the old stuff, like the Magik or Nightcrawler LS.

It's more affordable, easier to carry around, easier to share with people. And, maybe most important, It's what those crazy kids are used to these days.

I've only got so much shelf space for Essentials and oversized hardcovers, you know.

Thanks,

Matt

More Spotlights......
Although I'm enjoying the RUNAWAYS Digests; I'm hoping to see RUNAWAYS {and you can add LONERS/Excelsior while you're at it} having their own Spotlight soon.....

Plus, seeing NEW WARRIORS wouldn't hurt either; with the news about their Fourth Run premiering later this year.... ;) 8)

Hope
I hope the comic series is as good as the books. What i loved about the books is the Gunslinger himself. The kind of person he was. Hopefully the writters of the series do not so anything to change my thoughts on the kind of person he is.

Question about Essentials
Hi,

Firstly if this isn't the right place and or its been mentioned before (I didn't spot it but I didn't to an exhaustive search if I'm honest (lunch is only so long!) Sorry! I'm really curious as to whats happening with the Essentials line.

Taking into account all the solicits so far for 2007 there seems to be few new titles added to the Essentials line. What I mean by that is of the 6 titles listed (apologises if I'm wrong there) only one hasn't had a previous Essentials volume, Ms Marvel, of the rest have been at least a second volume, in the case of Ghost Rider and X-factor, up to the eight volume of Amazing Spider-man (I'm excluding new editions of Essentials already out by the way). So two questions is there a scaling down in the Essentials line over all, I may well be wrong but 6 in five months seems far fewer than in the past, and to be fair this was bound to happen eventually as there is only so much material that can be called 'Essential'. Secondly are you moving more towards additional volumes of the titles you know will sell instead of having to risk new titles altogther.

I clearly have a personal angle on this I love to see an Essential Ka-zar, but just have to accept that that may well not be on the cards, at a complete guess on my part without the knowledge you have, even I'd guess that might not sell to well! There are ones that do seem to me at least strange omissions (and I'm sure we'd all have our own list) to me this includes West Coast Avengers, Cloak and Dagger, Alpha Flight (thoguht the new colour additions may well explain that), Nick Fury Agent of Shield and Sub-mariner are the ones that spring to mind straight away.

Are Essentials kept back awaiting a good marketing time, e.g. Essential Sub-mariner will be released when the new series starts, Nick Fury when the Shield storyline final 'breaks' etc etc. Then that raises the question why Essential West Coast Avengers hasn't been brought out to tie in with the current success of the Avengers lines and the release of a second Avengers ongoing for the first time in years?

Can you let me know some of the specific thinking behind decisions and policy behind this frankly wonderful line of comics.

Cheers

Colin

Spotlight
I notice you're collecting the CW Spotlight in the CW Companion trade. Any plans to do similar things in the future, for example putting the Ghost Rider spotlight in the Ghost Rider trades?

Thank you in advance for any reply, either here, or the message board attached to www.marvelmasterworks.com, where I have the handle jamdav86.

I just wanted to say that I loved the addition of the cool-o-meter to the 1990s handbook. They did those right around when I was able to get comics on a semi-regular basis and I've loved them ever since. Thanks.

Onlsaught Trades
I'm pretty sure a lot of people have asked this, Are we evr going to see the Onslaught Saga collected, hopefully in a simlar fashion to AOA? Is this on the books and your keeping it quiet to keep us in suspense? or are you just not going to do it?

I know it's a bit early, but.....
With the recent responses to the LONERS Mini, NOVA & AVENGERS:THE INITIATIVE Series.....Now would be a great time to offer the following ideas for TPBs.....

LONERS' Firsts........Reprinting the first {and/or key} appearances for the 'Members' of EXCELSIOR..!!(Sorry, couldn't resist.... :p)

POWER PACK - Trade-off Syndrome.....Focusing on the key issues where the Pack underwent their power exchanges {and you can throw in Alex's appearances of him becoming Powerpax/Powerhouse from the NW First Run}.

GENERATION X Firsts.....First/Key Appearances involving the former members of the Team.

POWER PACK - Heroic Encounters.....The world youngest Super-Teams First "Meetings" with the various MU heroes from their original series.

And I know these has already been suggested but nevertheless....

ESSENTIAL NEW WARRIORS {First Run}
ESSENTIAL POWER PACK
ESSENTIAL NEW MUTANTS {First Run}
ESSENTIAL NEW WARRIORS
ESSENTIAL GENERATION X
ESSENTIAL SLINGERS {Extremely longshot, I know..!! ;) }

And that's all......until some more comes to mind......
